The curved hook on the end discourages bags from slipping off the bag handle when you set your bags down. The V-shaped lower-part keeps the center of mass centered under the carrying part, so that the load doesn't shift. The bad news is that the scalloped finger rests force the weight directly into the center of each finger, where the bone is, which tires the hand more quickly than if the carrier were completely flat, so that the weight could be distributed more evenly among the entire set of fingers.
