The cold water flow was very slow so it took a very long time to fill the tub with water that was not too hot. We called Moen to ask if we needed the whole cartridge (part 1222) or if the repair kit (96988) would be the best way to fix it. The customer service rep said we needed the whole cartridge but when she learned we were the original owners of the house, she offered to send us one at no cost. We found some videos on the web describing how to install the cartridge. The whole process took about 30 minutes to install, could have been quicker but we were trying to be neat. Great customer service from Moen to stand behind their products.

I have put in dozens of these over the years and some are relatively easy and some will make you squeal. You will probably need a cartridge puller and I recommend plumbers grease in the manifold opening and in the cartridge shaft inside & out.
